Checking in

Jayson:

Some things to consider might be looking into the horror genre and which devices can help to tell your story. Good writers are also good readers. The more you read, the more inspired you will become to write. Find some good, horrific short stories that pique your interest. There is a collection by Stephen King that is beyond grotesque. Let me know if you want some titles.

Consider who could be a good mentor for you on this project. You might also think of writing communities that can help you edit and craft such as the IYWP. Also, I think my friend Akwi still does a youth writing group at CRPS. Let me know if you want the hook ups.

Blog Post 2 2/10

Research Questions:

1. What is the problem with writing a lengthy novel?
It is very time consuming and extremely taxing on the brain.

2. What standards need to be met?
In order to create a full length novel I need a good plot, well developed characters, a thick story line in which I intend to throw some nasty curves for entertainment purposes, and a well thought out plan of what direction the book will take and a story actually worth reading.

3. Who's feedback matters?
Everyone's feedback matters, to me at least. Whether it is constructive or destructive criticism. Either type is fine by me and pushes me to strive to be a better author.

4. What is the point of writing a novel?
My point is to create a story that is worth reading and captivating. I want my book to draw the reader in and submerse them in that fear that the characters are feeling. I want the reader to become immersed and feel as if they are in the world that I have created. Entertainment is achieved through many things, but only few get a kick while reading. I want those few to pick up my book and enjoy it.

Blog Post 1 2/2

My 20 Time proposal is a novel about a cannibalistic family, as mentioned in the previous post.
I received a ton of feedback from my peers as well as Ms. Becker. All of my feedback was positive and there were many questions such as; "Why is it about a cannibalistic family?" All I can say to that is, "Because it is." A simple response with absolutely no reasoning behind it but, at the same time the most complex answer. Ponder over it for as long as you'd like.
So far, I have created and molded my characters and their lives. I have also started the book off slowly, creating a sense of safety and warmth. Shortcomings..? None. Nothing has gone wrong with my novel other than my pencil's breaking.
Next week during 20 Time I am hoping to at least get what I have written typed down and printed while revising and editing it along the way. My process may be slow, and tedious...  but in the long run, it works and it fits the ideas I have in my mind during the whole process.
For my 20 Time project I am going to be writing a full length novel. This novel is going to be about a cannibalistic family living in a modern society. The novel will contain background on the family members as well as an incident that happens. The cannibalistic family invites another family into their home for dinner and wine. The other family accepts the offer and goes to their home. When inside the "normal" family is trapped and then hunted for sport. This novel will contain twists and turns and make your stomach sink like a stationary roller coaster. I am restricted by school policy, therefore I cannot go all out with my graphics and figurative language ;(
Regardless, I believe that this will be a fairly successful novel and will be enjoyed by all readers, as long as they're not squeamish.
